November 25, 2018

Last Christmas was our first as a family. It was a big deal. Being a huge Christmas fan, it was the one time of year I was most looking forward to seeing Reuben experience – and it was as magical as I’d hoped. Last Christmas […]

PYJAMA DAY | Hunker Down in Hunkemöller Pyjamas

November 22, 2018

You can’t knock a good old pyjama day.  Snuggled up on the sofa with a good movie and hot drink, wrapped up in the fluffiest blanket and your comfiest pjs.  To me, it’s one of the few pleasures to winter’s hostility; thanks to cold wet […]

SMEAR FEAR: When Pain (And The Fear of It) Stops You From Having A Smear Test

October 28, 2018

Cervical screening — or smear testing — is one of life’s necessary evils that leaves us feeling awkward, embarrassed and a little bit “ick”, and yet it’s potentially life saving because cancer doesn’t discriminate. But if your vagina is a no-go area, the pap test […]

AUTUMN DAYS | A Family Visit to Yorkshire Pumpkins

October 24, 2018

Autumn is a magical time of year.  Despite the shortening days creeping toward long chilly nights, the sweet scent of fallen leaves on frostbitten air announces harvest time, promising forthcoming seasonal holidays and a time to retreat with simple home comforts.  And nothing says Autumn celebration quite […]

ANXIETY | I’m Happy But I Still Think About Suicide

October 9, 2018

[TRIGGER WARNING] I don’t wake up thinking, “How can I end my life today?” I don’t hate my life.  In fact, I’m very happy.  I love being a mum, being married, living the middle life.  But time and time again I catch myself in my […]

WE MADE IT! | Baking Gingerbread Miffy Biscuits with The Toddler

October 3, 2018

Baking with a toddler wouldn’t normally be on my list of things to do.  I like baking, but as a perfectionist (who oddly isn’t all that great a baker) and who loses their biscuit over the littlest hiccup, it’s best I bake on my own. […]

CO-SLEEPING | Why We (Still) Sleep With Our Child

September 20, 2018

Co-sleeping is everything like you imagine: it’s cramped, inconvenient, a bit scary, and can often have you waking with a stiff neck.  So why do it?  Because as much as co-sleeping with a little one literally cramps your style, it’s the best feeling ever. Updated […]

Here’s something you may bump into me doing… b Here’s something you may bump into me doing… bargain shopping, charity shopping, thrift hauling, call it what you will. I love the thrill of shopping, always on the hunt for silly prices and getting a deal with a little “squee” dance when it hits the sweet spot.

Who else loves bargain shopping? 🛍️

Did this back in December in the run up to Christmas, when we went to Belsay Hall in Northumberland. There’s still time to do it if you haven’t, as the awesome sheepies are there til the 26th January 2026. It’s a really nice walk around Belsay’s gardens so worth a visit.

So which do you think looks the best one? I love the gingerbread Shaun and the gardener Shaun because it has some lovely little bugs all over him. 🐞

2026 is here ✨ This wasn’t today though. Thi 2026 is here ✨

This wasn’t today though. This was the last day of 2025 (yesterday) but it was just as cold. It was a frosty day and we ended up playing with the ice in the frozen ponds at Fountains Abbey. Just breaking it up, smashing it through with twigs and releasing air bubbles. Didn’t actually see the abbey. Just played with ice. Most unexpected fun ever. 😄

This was the week before Christmas when we went up to the Northern Sinfonia concert and made a visit to Fenwick’s Christmas window display. This year’s theme was A Christmas Carol which was really well done. I loved the scene where Scrooge is being flown over the town by the ghost of yet to come. And we spotted our own living room fireplace tiling surround in the Crachit household. 😂

Sometimes Christmas is a strange old one. I’d be Sometimes Christmas is a strange old one. I’d been reflecting on how this time ten years ago we were facing Dad’s last Christmas. And here we were, facing another abnormal Christmas with Mum being hospitalised. It’s hard doing the festivities when all is not well with the folks. Thankfully we were still at least able to go see Mum on her ward so we took her presents in to her. A few hours later we were on to my sister’s house. We opened presents, ate yummy festive food and wished Mum was home. Despite all this, Reuben was glad to see his cousins. It wasn’t normal but Christmas was had. 🎄
