Getting Snuggly with Heat Holders Tights

November 2, 2013
If you’re not familiar with Heat Holders, you have sooo been missing out!  I first came across the cosy brand a few years ago (around the time they were launched in 2008) when a stand of their awesomely thick socks caught my eye.  As someone with ridiculously crap circulation, or Raynaud’s to you and I fellow ‘frosty’ sufferers, chunky boot socks are always on my radar.  Heat Holders excited me on a whole new level since they came with the promise of a tog rating.  TOG RATING!  That’s like, duvet warm!  Said socks were purchased and the rest, they say, is history…

Then I discovered there was a whole new world of Heat Holders I didn’t even know about!  Not only are there socks – in different lengths for various needs, I must add – you can also get leggings and tights, all with the insane thermal qualities as the socks!  My mind: blown.

The Sock Shop are an online retailer who sell an extensive range of hosiery, socks and underwear, including the complete range of Heat Holders products.  They offered to send me a pair of Heat Holders tights for me to try out, so I opted for a purple pair (I do like to inject a bit of colour to whatever I wear.)

I’m wearing:
Ralph Lauren Pink Long Sleeve Top
Primark Black Pleat Skirt
Sainsburys Pheasant TU Scarf
New Look Brown Buckle Strap Ankle Boots
Heat Holders Purple Tights
The size is a medium which basically fits hips 40-42″ (I’m about 39″), and although there’s no mention of height, I would say my 5’8″ would be the very top end height I’d recommend.  At first I thought I wasn’t going to get them to fit, but I did after a slight adjustment, though I’ve been pulling them up all day which has been pretty annoying.  I don’t know if the next size up, the large, would be any better in this respect.
The 0.52 TOG rating doesn’t really sound like much, but when you consider the tights are 140 denier thick, you sharp put it into perspective.  These are seriously thick tights!  They feel thick and of a quality construction, they’re stretchy without wrinkling and there’s fat chance of any laddering.

One characteristic I love is that they’re actually fleecy on the inside!  A very soft, fine gauge fleece that just adds to the cosy factor when you put them on, like when I decided to give them the trial this chilly morning.

The verdict?  Heat Holders tights mean serious business.  They’re thick and keep you warm.  I’m yet to brave the harshest weather in them, but I believe they’d be up for the job.  I do still prefer to wear socks in my boots but regarding their worthiness of winter hosiery?  These are hard core!

Do you turn to your tights come the colder months?  What denier thickness do you usually wear?  Or do you prefer trousers and socks in winter?

I love leggings with cotton jersey skirts for work. Just so much more comfy when you’re wrapped around a desk all day. However, since temps here in coastal Alaska have already dipped to a cool misty 40F (think Yorkshire, but a bit more chilly) I bought a pair of fleece leggings ClimateRight by Cuddl Duds. I was dubious but also freezing, & for $10….. I was pleasantly surprised. I’m 5’9″ & they’re just long enough for me, & wonderfully stretchy. I went down a size, as I thought they might run large. I wore them to work & found them really comfy. They definitely held up to the damp, windy day.

Ooooh! These sound fabulous! I am perpetually cold, although the GP has no idea why, so shy away from wearing skirts in the winter. Tights with a tog rating are right up my street!

Hi Angela, has your GP tested for hypothyroidism? I have that as well as my Raynauds. Some auto immune conditions can cause sensitivity to cold.

I love my leggings generally in winter, but these tights are just as thick, if not more so, so I’d honestly recommend them.

Thanks for the tip off, Callie, they sound awesome! I love wearing leggings with skirts too. They sound similar to Heat Holders leggings but I’ll have to check them out and give them a whirl!

I live in NY and have had very mild hypothyroidism since 5th grade. I wear the Spanx reversible tights because they are a bit thicker than the regular Spanx. On mornings that I know I am going to wear a skirt or dress, I tuck my tights underneath my MacBook while I check my emails/blogs. By the time I am finished getting ready to leave for work, my tights are nice and toasty.
