The Month I Ditched the Disposable Sanitary Towel (And Went Reusable)

January 8, 2019

Let’s be honest, there’s nothing wonderful about being on your period. Unless you’ve been hoping for a non-pregnancy situation (where you’d probably be quite happy about getting your period), that time of the month can just mean a whole lot of inconvenience, pain and expense. […]

10 Realities I Never Expected As A Newly Made Mum

July 18, 2017

When you imagine what something may be like, you can generally guess and have a good idea of the experience.  Like having a baby.  Labour will be somewhat painful, baby will pop out one way or another, and you’ll go home – right?  Let’s just say when it came […]

Managing Period Pain Without The Contraceptive Pill

February 27, 2016

I discuss periods occasionally on the blog because while menstruation is a ridiculously taboo subject to raise, it’s still a fact of life.  It may be a given that periods aren’t the most comfortable monthly experience, but it doesn’t mean you should be suffering. Ever since my first period I’ve […]

Zoely: The Wonder Period Pill?

March 30, 2015

I’ve been on ‘the pill’ for a heck of a long time.  And, unlike most people’s reasons for taking a contraceptive prescription, mine was for sanity: I had demon periods. For years I dreaded my period that more resembled giving birth; two days every month spent […]

5 Awesome Ways To Enjoy Your Period

December 8, 2014

Periods suck.  They make you cranky and touchy and a nightmare to be around.  And it’s a week full of inconvenience.  Do you or don’t you go swimming?  Have I got enough towels or tampons in my bag?  It’s all blood and pain – and […]

Diary Doll Period Pants

November 5, 2013

Oh how PMS gets me down… (yes, this really is me!) Image: Chris Rout Periods are evil.  I blame Eve, if it hadn’t been for her I wouldn’t be expressing my absolute loathing of what can only be described as woman’s monthly punishment.  I wouldn’t […]

2026 is here ✨ This wasn’t today though. Thi 2026 is here ✨

This wasn’t today though. This was the last day of 2025 (yesterday) but it was just as cold. It was a frosty day and we ended up playing with the ice in the frozen ponds at Fountains Abbey. Just breaking it up, smashing it through with twigs and releasing air bubbles. Didn’t actually see the abbey. Just played with ice. Most unexpected fun ever. 😄

This was the week before Christmas when we went up to the Northern Sinfonia concert and made a visit to Fenwick’s Christmas window display. This year’s theme was A Christmas Carol which was really well done. I loved the scene where Scrooge is being flown over the town by the ghost of yet to come. And we spotted our own living room fireplace tiling surround in the Crachit household. 😂

Sometimes Christmas is a strange old one. I’d be Sometimes Christmas is a strange old one. I’d been reflecting on how this time ten years ago we were facing Dad’s last Christmas. And here we were, facing another abnormal Christmas with Mum being hospitalised. It’s hard doing the festivities when all is not well with the folks. Thankfully we were still at least able to go see Mum on her ward so we took her presents in to her. A few hours later we were on to my sister’s house. We opened presents, ate yummy festive food and wished Mum was home. Despite all this, Reuben was glad to see his cousins. It wasn’t normal but Christmas was had. 🎄

We found an über festive cake shop. 🍰 Full on We found an über festive cake shop. 🍰 Full on Christmas vibes and seriously good patisserie delights! 🤤

We decided to go to church’s second Christmas special service over in Barnard Castle and had a little time beforehand for a bit of shopping and go for a hot chocolate. And cakes too it transpired. Reuben chose a Bounty cake, Sean went for an apricot and mango cake and I got the fun (and yummy) Rudolph eclair. It’s nice to find new little gems. 😊

Is everyone managing to find moments to chill out this crazy week? 🎄
