Ah, The Snowman. The epitome of a modern British Christmas, it’s hard to imagine the festive season without our favourite snowy friend. So what could top the annual event of sitting down to watch the tv re-run of our much loved Christmas animation? Experiencing The Snowman Tour.

In just a few months the most wonderful time of the year will be upon us again. And after a long season of uncertainty, I’m looking forward to the comfort found in the nostalgic familiar.

I’m yearning to make a big old Christmas cake again, revisit the Christmas markets, dig out the twenty year old decorations, and acquaint the Santa believing four year old with the fond traditions I’ve long held close.

The Snowman — which was first published by author Raymond Briggs back in 1978 — hit the small screen almost forty years ago, and was an instant hit. Now the very same classic animation is hitting the road, taking the film to the big screen for a totally immersive experience.

We’re looking forward to seeing The Snowman Tour ourselves at Durham Cathedral, which lands on the 20th December. Perfect timing for the lead up to Christmas Day, and with Reuben having broken up for school by then (after his first term!), I thought we could make a festive mini break out of it.

Having booked ahead a hotel room for the night, we’re hopeful for a Christmassy mooch around Durham City centre, taking in the historic sights and festive atmosphere with the Christmas markets after seeing The Snowman Tour. Reuben’s so excited and as a child at heart who’s always held a soft spot for The Snowman, I’m so looking forward to it too.

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is a Lupus Films production in association with Bear Hunt Films and Walker Productions for Channel 4, Universal Pictures and Herrick Entertainment with the support of Creative Europe – MEDIA programme of the European Union.
