5 Awesome Ways To Enjoy Your Period

December 8, 2014

Periods suck.  They make you cranky and touchy and a nightmare to be around.  And it’s a week full of inconvenience.  Do you or don’t you go swimming?  Have I got enough towels or tampons in my bag?  It’s all blood and pain – and depending how full on – tears.

So no wonder we don’t exactly look forward to that dreaded date of the month.

A duvet day with a Netflix box set is one way of getting through your period, but what else is there to make the most of this gross and grumpy time?  This thought lead me on a quest to find more ways to cope, even reasons to look forward to your period.  Maybe that’s an expectation too far.

I’m not going to go all ‘hippy’ and harp on about how a blessing your period is.  Yes okay, it means you’re still fertile and not pregnant (depending on where your hopes lie) but when you’re nursing a contracting uterus that’s only causing pain and disruption you only feel like twating the next person who belittles your very real suffering.

Periods seriously suck but here’s a few suggestions to make your monthly appointment with Auntie Flow a little more enjoyable.

pinkparcel_letterbox

Pink Parcel is a monthly subscription box with a difference.  It’s timed around your monthly cycle and sent in time for your period.  And unlike most beauty boxes, the contents aren’t limited to make up or skincare, you’ll find all manner of goodies to make you feel better from tea bags to false lashes to supplements.  There’s the all important towels and tampons too, based on your tailored preference.  It’s a nice way of delivering the necessities along with exciting pampering products for a much needed feel good factor.

Harebrained Bloody Marvellous Period Panties Okay, so we’re not in the mood for cutesy, pretty frilly knickers.  If that isn’t your thing, maybe a tongue in cheek, sarcastically full of attitude pant is.  To be honest, Evil Beaver pretty much sums up my first few days.

period_spatablet

Intimina Monthly Spa Tablet is a fab little idea for the ultimate treat of a lovely comforting bath.  Relaxing in a hot soothing tub can be one of the best things to do at that time of the month, and with the monthly spa tablet it means you’ll get a good soak that’s gentle on your ‘bits’ too.  Ahhhhh.

period_heatpad

Dreamland Intelliheat Heatpad is a step up from your regular hot water bottle without messing around with hot water and does away with that gross rubbery smell.  When period pain is at its strongest, you can’t beat the power of heat.  The ability to control the temperature and have consistent heat makes this heatpad a seriously good investment.  The idea of snuggling up with this softie makes me want my period now!  (almost)

DiaryDoll_blue_cut

Diary Doll knickers are not your average pair of pants.  Specifically made with periods in mind, these clever briefs are designed to cater for sanitary towels and protect against potential accidents.  They come in a little bag so are fantastic to pop in your handbag for whenever you need them.  The new polka dot blue design is adorably cute.  Every female ought to own a least one pair.  (Just saying.)  Check out my review of the black colourway for more detail.

Thanks to the lovely folk at Diary Doll you have a chance to win your very own dotty blue period pants!

Try sea sponge tampons, from the sea sponge company, less harsh on body than regular tampons, seriously smooth, and can be used with various supostories to sooth vaginal pains… easy to use, natural and WOW

Hmmm… I tend to love cuddling up with a hot water bottle during my time of the month. An extra hour in bed is always welcome though!
