Autumnal Jewels | Freya Hero Plunge Bra

September 24, 2015

Autumn is just the best time to exploit extravagance and luxury.  Through a palette of rich colour and sumptuous fabrics, this season’s lingerie glorifies the jewels of the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.

This month Freya has introduced new collection, Hero, in a juicy Berry colourway, as well as classic black.  Hero is surely set to be a Freya favourite, not least because it’s available from a 28 back and up to a K cup, but it’s a plunging style that offers seriously fine looks and incredible fit.

I was gifted the Hero Side Support Plunge Bra in Berry (30H, RRP £30) and Brief (Large, RRP £13)

Hero is, quite frankly, my new bra hero.  Considering how boobs are the fussiest of body parts to fit, this bra wears like a dream.  Let me tell you why this bra rocks.

Hero is an unpadded, underwired bra with slightly sheer mesh cups.  Its look is completely modern and as far from twee as can be.  Aside from the odd centre bow, striking metallic silver thread injects into an aesthetic that’s bold, fierce and down-right hot.

What I found straight away was how solid Hero’s manufacture is.  While I do notice a slight difference in the make up of the smaller cups compared to my large cup Hero, the style follows a closely similar vein.

The mesh cups are strong and rigid, and feature side supporting that makes sure every inch of the cup encapsulates and fully secures.  The resulting shape and fit is firm and reassuring but still shapely and feminine.  In fact, Hero’s fit is quite unlike most Freya bras I’ve tried and can think of.  It can easily be Freya’s best fitting bra ever.

I was really pleased with how Freya styled Hero’s straps continuing the resounding solid fit.  As the straps are wide and flat it means once they’ve been adjusted to your body, they stay absolutely put.  Combined with a deep band that features a 3 hook wide fastener, it’s a bra that puts the extra hour in.

It’s like a Freya Active sport bra had sweet relations with one of Freya’s sultry numbers.

To accompany Hero’s leading lady, there’s the option of three brief styles.  I chose the classic brief in a size Large.  The pattern bears the same appearance but its fabrication is different.  The mesh this time, which features to the front of the brief, is completely soft handle and is double layered for an opaque look.  The reverse of the knickers is a silky soft microfibre with a seam-free edge, so it fits smoothly and comfortably.

Hero is one of those collections that’s quite unassuming, because it has such a modern look.  You wouldn’t necessarily think a design that looks this good could be such a powerfully fitting piece of kit.  I fell for its looks, but I had no idea how fantastic it would be in terms of fit.  Now I all I have left to do is get my mitts on the black version, because there’s no way I’m letting this one get away!

What do you think of the Freya Hero?  Do you like the modern look combined with high support?  Have you ever been left surprised after trying a new style bra?

Does it offer enough immediate projection? At least, as Fluorish or Totaly Tartan? Is the band usual Freya’s band or does it go TTS? I wear 28HH/J in Freya and 30H/HH in other brands. Should I stick to 28 band, as usually with Freya (I prefer bands as tight as possible), or it’d be too short for my 29′ ribcage?

WOW. this makes me want to try Freya again. I’ve never been able to get them to tack in the gore, and as a JJ/K cup i feel the best with a very close fit. Hold like a sports bra with shape like sexy? i’m definitely onboard with that. It’s also an amazing color. i look forward to finding someone carrying it with free returns!

Lovely. It looks a great deal like Gem, which turned out to be much more closed on top than Jolie. I fear this will be one for the fuller-on-bottom ladies.

Hi Becky! This style is so flattering, but is it me or do the cups run big? Also, my waist is about 30″in. & hips are 38″in., is that bigger or smaller than you (I want to buy the matching panties but have NO idea which size to get)… please help, I’m lost here, haha! (The pink looks fab on you by the way!) -Tara

Hi Tara, the cups of Hero are more of a full coverage style so it does possibly look bigger than a balconette, but I wouldn’t say it runs big for the size. It’s spot on for a 30H for me. Regarding the knickers, I’m a 31″ waist and my hips are slightly bigger than yours (about 41″), so I’d suggest you try the medium – definitely not the large I wear.
