San Francisco Silk by Andrés Intimates

April 28, 2015

Luxury lingerie is a guilty pleasure for many.  Whether it’s a perfectly crafted aesthetic or covetable brand status that gets the pulse racing, indulgent lingerie will always have a place on our wish list.

Premium fabrics increase the desirability of lingerie tenfold, and silk is widely considered one of the most sumptuous luxuries.  But did you know that silk has a standard scale much like cotton’s threadcount?  A garment not disclosing its silk momme weight is worth walking away from.

US brand, Andrés Intimates, approached me recently enthusing their passion for creating silk lingerie and sleepwear.  Based in San Francisco, California, the company produces premium garments made to order, using hand dyed fabrics, high grade silk and laces applied keeping to traditional ways.  Their persona epitomises femininity, combining comfort with beauty.

Andrés wanted me to experience the true scale of their expertise and offered to create me a co-ordinating chemise and kimono in a style of my choice.  I asked for a hot pink trimmed with black lace, as I think it’s such an energetic, youthful but sexy colour combination.  The pink Andrés dyed for me is their ‘geranium’ shade, which is such a warm, pretty tone.

My chemise and kimono are both crafted in a beautiful 19mm silk charmeuse, which is high lustre silk satin with a crepe reverse.   The light weight silk is completely touchable; soft handle with a fluid drape.  Delicately trimmed with deep lace, the feel is as sumptuous as it looks.

The 32″ chemise (Large, $158) is a short, high cut length that just skims the bottom.  It’s cut on the bias to allow movement and a complimentary fit, which seems to suit my curves well.  The neckline is broad enough for my full bust; when aided by the generous adjustable straps the fit is just right.

I found the length of this chemise a little too short (possibly exaggerated by having big boobs and wide hips) so if you also have a curvaceous figure and prefer more coverage I would recommend trying the longer 41″ version.

The kimono (M/L, approx. $235) is such a fantastic robe, perfect for chilling out in during the warmer months.  The cropped cut makes it simple and easy to wear; finishing mid thigh, the robe features wide, three quarter length sleeves trimmed with Andrés’ custom tulip lace.

I’ve definitely found through sampling the chemise and kimono set that quality speaks volumes.  Andrés Intimates are proud of their heritage and craftsmanship, and the beauty of these garments show it.  I don’t know about you but fantastic clothing can make or break my self confidence, so when something fits and feels amazing, it’s a feeling worth hanging on to.

Luxury doesn’t come cheap but well cut pieces in premium grade quality will always make for a timeless investment.
