Animal Shabby Chic Wall Art + Giveaway!
Moving house is always a stressful and daunting time, whether it’s a positive move or not. Although we love the countryside for it’s rural delights (the views, the walks and the wildlife), the trappings that came with rural living had begun to wane after 14 years living out in the sticks. So, we decided it was time to move. Now I think we have the best of both worlds, since our house is literally on the outskirts of a country town, just yards away from fields yet close to civilisation!
|That it is!|
There’s been ample boxes to unpack, but I love unwrapping all the lovely, pretty things that had been stowed away from sight and memory. Rooms once bare and de-personalised are again given character, this time with my favourite old ornaments and vintage inspired, shabby chic pieces. I love wall art and framing pictures. My favourites are simply old adverts or recent ones I’ve loved the look of. I have a soft spot for painted pictures and illustrations that depict wildlife and animals to their true form too.
Just before we moved house, I received some wall art by Sean Aherne, a self taught artist who has seen his work published, exhibited and auctioned in some of the most prestigious venues in the UK. His work spans fine art to the more contemporary, including the latest project: shabby chic inspired printed art signs featuring light hearted quotes and Sean’s unique animal depictions styled with an antique look. Whether you’re an animal lover or not, it’s hard not to appreciate the beauty in these pictures.
The printed images taken from Sean’s original paintings are of a high professional quality, which are secured onto wood boards. They’re really quite substantial and very well made. At 10×8 inches, the signs aren’t huge, but I think if they were bigger the size would take away from their delicate look.
Another sign I adore is the The Cuckoo sign as it’s so sweet and reminiscent of Spring and its sprightly nature. It’s a cheerful picture that will brighten up any room through the dark months ahead.
I used to love cats immensely when I was little, but whilst I’m not as much of a kitty fan these days (rabbits and guinea pigs stole my heart!) I still admire well painted feline pictures. This beautiful cat with her luscious furry locks is exquisite.

A real mish mash: a modern sofa next to an old trunk, traditional rugs and kitsch cushions and lots and lots of “stuff” everywhere. That’s the way we like it!

I like to think of my home as ‘ecclectic retro’ in style but in truth, it’s just a hotchpotch of secondhand items I’ve acquired over the years 🙂
Tammy TudorSeptember 13, 2013 at 11:58 am
I’d love a more modern feel in my home although that can’t usually be achieved on a tight budget like mine! 🙂

My Brother once described our home as “Oxfam” … as nothing matches! It’s not so bad after 6 years of saving for better bits n pieces … I’d love a shabby chic home as opposed to just shabby 😉 xx

My home decor is fairly modern with a homely feel. Lots of make do bits and pieces but we are getting there with getting it to the way we would like it 🙂 Shabby chic is the plan I have for my bedroom which is next on the list.
The print you are giving away is my favourite mainly because we are a cat mad household! lol

Very eclectic. Mixing designer with charity shop – more shabby than chic, at the moment though.
Michelle bennettOctober 1, 2013 at 7:18 pm
Each room is abit different- my kitchen is quite modern looking. but that was my landlords choice. My bathroom is plain white and i accessorise it with whatever colours i fancy. The rest of my house is very vintage looking, lots of duck eggs, greens and blues.
Piper and DaisyOctober 1, 2013 at 7:47 pm
I try to be minimalist and tend to end up with loads of trinkets everywhere! But when the girls give me little tokens of their affection such as conkers and fallen leaves (?) I can;t refuse to have them on display 🙂
HelenltOctober 1, 2013 at 7:49 pm
eclectic mix of vintage/shabby chic/preloved
squires susanOctober 1, 2013 at 10:15 pm
My style is eclectic – some shiny tech, some lovely polished dark wood items, some egyptian items, some Dark Art, a mixture of anything and everything. But this artwork makes me think of a dear friend and smile.
