Fur and Fluff | Wear The Trend Cruelty Free

November 2, 2014

Since the clocks rolled back an hour Autumn has made its entrance known.  It’s been wet, extremely windy, and a little on the nippy side.  Autumn is a lovely time of year too though.  It’s the first episode of cold weather and the thought of snuggling down inside new season scarves and jumpers is a very appealing one!

Wool and fur are considered some of the most superior fabrics but because they come from animals they’re a dubious choice to wear.

Fluff

This season fluffy knits are huge.  Angora is a frequently used wool for its delicate softness, though the nature of harvesting the ‘wool’ – which is literally torn from live rabbits’ backs – puts a dampener on the whole cute and fuzzy idea of wearing it.  French Connection and most recently, Monsoon, have decided to withdraw their use of angora, which is a big win for bunnies!

You really don’t need angora to wear the fluffy trend – polyester mix fibres are super soft and comfy, and come in loads of gorgeous patterns.

Fur

Fur is a mainstay of Winter fashion and sadly many designers are still using the genuine article despite superior replica fur now being made.  The fur trade is so horrendously barbaric I wish it were just a nightmare, but it isn’t.  Fur is beautiful but not on the backs on humans.

Faux fur is really exceptional these days and so soft and cosy to wear.  I had an old faux fur gilet that I made into a hand muff this week.  I lined it with polar fleece and ran a cord through it to wear around my neck.  But it doesn’t matter if you’re not craft handed.  There are some amazing accessories and toasty warm jackets on the highstreet.  No foxes were harmed in the creation of these beauties!
